Tomatin 36 Year Old, Oloroso Sherry & Bourbon Cask, 2017, 46%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

91 / 100

The named Oloroso sherry and bourbon casks make an interesting pairing on paper, while the notes stay focused on fruit, sweetness and spice rather than assigning flavours to either cask. That restraint suits me: crisp orchard fruit and citrus meet oak, honey and warm spice, with milk chocolate and toffee carrying through the finish. It sounds layered without leaning on one loud cask effect. At 36 years and 46%, the written character feels composed, though its appeal here is the balance, not age alone.
