Wild Turkey 8 Year Old 101 Proof, New Charred Oak Cask, 1993, 50.5%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

87 / 100

Vanilla and caramel give this bourbon an easy entry, but the toasted and peppery oak, cinnamon, and allspice keep it from reading as simply sweet. Brown sugar and dried fruit carry into a long, warming finish, while lemon zest and black cherry add a brighter contrast on the palate. It sounds approachable in its familiar sweetness, though the spice and warmth suggest a firmer edge than a soft, mellow style. That balance is appealing without pretending it’s delicate.
