This is the kind of Islay character I’m drawn to. Sweet peat smoke sits alongside vanilla fudge, citrus oil and roasted nuts, so there’s more going on than smoke alone. I especially like the turn toward brine and sweet malt on the long, warming finish, with bonfire embers keeping a coastal edge in view. Cured meats, red apples, cinnamon and black pepper give the nose a savory, lively feel.
