Convalmore Natural Cask Strength 28 Year Old, Refill Cask, 2005, 57.9%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

89 / 100

There’s plenty of fruit and sweetness here, from glacé cherries and blood orange on the nose to strawberries, cherries and toffee on the palate. The smoke sounds restrained: slight on the palate, then more distinct in the smoky-menthol aftertaste. I like that it seems to sit alongside the perfumed fruit and dry oak rather than define the whole character. The lightly spicy, dry edge gives the sweeter notes some welcome balance.
