Old Forester Statesman Bourbon, New Charred Oak Cask, 47.5%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

87 / 100

The contrast between maple, vanilla and cherry sweetness and the sharper peppery spice gives this bourbon a clear point of interest. Cocoa and caramel bring a richer side to the palate, while the finish keeps the spice alongside vanilla and lingering oak. I like how those sweeter notes meet the peppery edge rather than crowding it out. It comes across as generously flavoured and layered, but the sweet-versus-spicy balance still sounds easy to follow.
