Old Pulteney Noss Head 1L, Bourbon & Sherry Cask, 2013, 46%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

82 / 100

The gentle smoke thread is what makes this appealing to me: char smoke and a hint of smoke are present, but they sit alongside vanilla, citrus and apples rather than defining the whole picture. The palate’s sweet malt, lemon and coconut sound easy to follow, with pepper and oak giving it a drier edge. I also like the contrast between that sweet, citrus-led character and the finish’s bittersweet notes and tannins. Overall, a lively set of notes, with smoke kept in a supporting role.
