Shizuoka United S First Edition, Bourbon & Wine & Virgin Oak Cask, 2022, 50.5%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

88 / 100

The fruit is the easy way into this one: green apple and pear on the nose lead toward apricot, mango and stewed apple. On the palate, ripe peach and honey meet gentle citrus acidity, while peat and a little oak spice add a drier counterpoint. That mix keeps the fruit from feeling one-note, and the familiar fruit comparisons make the character easy to picture. The medium-length finish brings honey and lemon zest back into view. A lively, layered direction that suits my fruit-leaning preferences.
