Springbank 18 Year Old, Sherry & Bourbon Cask, 2010 Release, 2010, 46%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

88 / 100

This has plenty going on beyond smoke: the spicy chilli and aniseed sit alongside rich fruit, while the finish brings salty chocolate and coconut. The listed peat level is light, and the sensory notes describe smoky fruit and a smoky tingle rather than making smoke the main event. That balance suits my preference for smoke to be present without taking over. The long, consistent finish is a clear strength; the sweet, rich side may matter more here than peat.
