Description

An old bottling of Aberlour 10 year old, bottled in the late 1980s, from a time when the distillery still described its whiskies as 'Aberlour-Glenlivet'. It was matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks.

Nose
An initial hit of musty and dusty pineapple and tropical fruits. Deep malty chocolate and coffee grounds. Rum-soaked raisins, prunes, light balsamic vinegar and furniture polish. Berry flavours, toffee apples and some light soily earthiness.
Palate
A very full and oily arrival packed with deep old sherry, dark chocolate, brewed coffee and molasses. Pencil shavings, old leather and umami (soy sauce). Jammy reduced berries and liquorice joined by hefty pepperiness.
Finish
Short to medium, delivering cocoa nibs and burnt caramel.
