Description

The Fragments of Scotland series was bottled for Samaroli by R.W. Duthie & Co in 1988, and each of them feature artworks depicting different elements of Scotland, all painted by Samaroli's friend, Agostino Perrnini. The painting on this particular label belonged to Silvano, and also appears on the Glen Garioch and Glenugie bottlings. A distillery located on the south coast of the Isle of Islay.

Nose
Full-bodied aroma. A bit less complex than the Carato but also smokier. Espresso coffee, apple skin, caramel crème, little fruit. Beautiful.
Palate
Powerful, bold, nervous. Great vivacity. Initial rush of peat and wood smoke, followed by gentle sweetness with hints of spice. Vegetables (turnips?), white fruits (apples, pears, white peaches), oysters (Islay's of course), pastry, vanilla crème, lots of spices. Fabulous notes of roots (gentian, wild carrots). Complex and powerful.
Finish
Light and elegant as it ends, the last hint of smoke slowly fading out. Mint and cocoa.
