Description

Ardbeg 21 Year Old House Reserve Batch #2 is a rare, 21-year-old single malt from Ardbeg's exclusive House Reserve series, available only at Ardbeg House on Islay. It was bottled in 2025 to celebrate the re-opening of the Ardbeg House Hotel in Port Ellen, Islay. Matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks, this robust whisky brings together sea spray and smoke with sweet figs, treacle toffee, and smoked hickory. This limited release has iconic peat smoke and coastal character wrapped in a richer, darker sherry influence.

Nose
Classic Ardbeg notes of peat smoke, bonfire ash and maritime salinity are complemented by mature fruits, dark chocolate and spiced oak. Rich red fruits with a deep layer of peat, raisin-studded fruitcake, sticky treacle, woodsmoke, charred ribs, and leather armchairs. With water, citrus oils and wild honey add brightness, while a wisp of burning heather keeps it firmly Islay.
Palate
Rich and layered, with a luxurious and oily texture coating the palate. Smoked malt, vanilla, leather, spice, and subtle citrus undertones. Rich sherry notes bring dark fruits, toffee, treacle, and stewed plums, while waves of mature peat smoke provide depth and structure. Dark chocolate, espresso, cinnamon, cloves, and a touch of black pepper develop gradually.
Finish
Long and intense, balancing sweet smoke with warming spice and elegant oak structure. A nice dryness at the end rather than a PX sweetness. The sweet smoke lingers and gives a concentrated, dry fig profile without being overly sweet.
