Description

This extraordinarily rare Islay single malt was distilled at Ardbeg in 1991 and independently bottled by Signatory Vintage after 33 years of maturation. Aged in a First Fill Oloroso Sherry Butt, this limited-edition expression is bottled at natural cask strength (52.6% ABV), unchillfiltered, and free from added colour, offering a deep and intense character that perfectly complements Ardbeg's signature smokiness.

Signatory Vintage Rare Reserve Cask Strength Collection, Symington's Choice
Historical context
Distilled in 1991, this spirit was made under the ownership of Allied Distillers who purchased Ardbeg after its sad mothballing in the 1980s. The early 1990s was also tumultuous with scarce production taking place until Glenmorangie purchased the distillery and revived it in 1997.

Nose
An inviting mix of rich sherry notes, such as dried figs, raisins, and dark chocolate, paired with classic Ardbeg peat smoke. Subtle hints of leather, roasted nuts, orange peel, and a touch of tar make the aroma deep and complex.
Palate
Full-bodied and intense on the palate, with layers of roasted coffee beans, dark caramel, and candied orange. The peat smoke is bold yet elegant, blending seamlessly with the spicy and earthy nuances of clove, cinnamon, and a light salinity.
Finish
Long and layered, with lingering smoky tones, notes of oak, dark chocolate, and a hint of sweet spices. The finish strikes a perfect balance between sweet and smoky, with a refined dryness that beckons another sip.
