Ardbeg Still Young was distilled in 1998 and released in 2006. This was the second release on the distillery's "Path to Peaty Maturity," and followed the Very Young release in 2004. Nose
Sweet and ashy with mineral notes, young spirit, honey, vanilla, woodfire smokiness, gentle coastal notes, mild menthol, and hints of unscented lotion. Also toffee, rich, creamy sweet, tangy peat, citrus, tarry, smoky bacon, engine oil, lanolin, felt roofing, and liquorice.
Palate
Very sweet and spicy with honey, chili spiciness, green apple, lemon fruitiness, savory notes, mineraly and ashy peat with coastal notes. Greasy and oily texture with alluvialness from shale and gravel, split vanilla pods, salted toffee squares, pine, moss, mint, thick wood lacquer, unrefined sugars, salts, and pepperiness.
Finish
Long with assorted fruit notes, menthol, chili spiciness, peat (burnt wood, minerals, coastal notes), oakiness, and a mix of old and new wood. Also spicy, punchy heat, plenty of smoke, little brine and fruit, tangy and tart coastal minerality, industrial steeliness, bitter chocolate, spent coffee grounds, and coal dust.
