Description

The Ardbeg Supernova Committee Release SN2014 is a highly anticipated and super-peated expression from the iconic Islay distillery, Ardbeg. This limited edition release, bottled in 2014, was created to commemorate the return of Ardbeg's pioneering Space Experiment, where a vial of spirit orbited the International Space Station for three years. It was an exclusive bottling for Ardbeg Committee members, with only 3000 bottles produced worldwide, selling out rapidly. Matured in a combination of Bourbon and Sherry casks, this whisky is known for its immense flavour profile, featuring rich fruity sweetness underlying incredibly deep, dark smoky notes, with a phenol level of around 100 PPM.

Nose
Intense zestiness of smoked lemons and pears, lemongrass and pine needles, with damp peat and sea spray, sour cream, grass and mint. Straw, coal smoke, and a deep, resinous, sticky waxy base are also present.
Palate
Distinctively peppery, spicy and electric, with powerful peppermint, antiseptic lozenges, and medicinal tones. Dark birch tar intermingles with spicy-sweet chilli flavoured chocolate, orange peel, damp earth, peat smoke, liquorice, cherries, and bitter dark chocolate. The mouth and palate are coated in luscious linseed oil.
Finish
Rich flavours of tar, creosote, briar wood, spicy tobacco and liquorice root. Sweet smoke, dark chocolate, ash, and lingering menthol. The aftertaste disappears into infinity.
