Description

This is a limited edition single cask malt from Arran, bottled on February 5, 2005, at 60.1% ABV. It was initially matured for many years in a sherry cask before being finished in a fresh Calvados cask. Only 630 bottles were produced, with Malt Master Gordon Mitchell overseeing the bottling.

Nose
Vibrant orchard bouquet of green apple and pear, with lemon zest. Calvados cask influence pours warm apple-brandy spice—cinnamon and nutmeg—through vanilla cream and toasted oak. A bright, fruity lift with a hint of almond marzipan, finishing in a softly fragrant apple-woven glow. Intense and spicy: cinnamon, green grass apple pie. With water reminiscent of a Martinique rum: vegetal, green banana, toasted oak.
Palate
Intense and orchard-bright, this Calvados-finished Arran coats the palate with ripe apples and pear, edged by a kiss of caramel and vanilla. The 60.1% ABV delivers warming pepper and spice (cinnamon, clove), while the Calvados barrel imparts brandy-like fruitiness. Velvet texture gives way to creamy oak, a mineral lift, and a long, crisp apple finish that lingers with subtle orchard sweetness. Appley and intense. Fairly sweet and spicy. The grassy apple note continues.
Finish
Long, orchard-bright finish driven by the Calvados cask: crisp green apple and pear linger, entwined with warm vanilla, spice and toasted oak. A touch of citrus threads through, fading slowly to a refined apple-skin tang that that leaves a warm, persistent glow on the palate. Nutty.
