Description

Situated in the Firth of Clyde, the island of Arran was once a hotbed of illicit distillation and smuggling. The Arran distillery at Lochranza started production in 1995. This 'The Bothy' limited release, Batch 1, was bottled in September 2015 and is one of 12,000 bottles. It was initially matured in first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels before being transferred for secondary maturation into smaller American oak quarter casks for a minimum of 18 months, creating greater wood contact and a more intense maturation. Bottled at natural cask strength without chill-filtration or artificial colouring, it presents a full-bodied expression of the Arran Malt with rich vanilla sweetness and bold peppery spice.

Fresh tropical notes, pineapple, green apples, vanilla, slight touch of chilli, creamy and fresh, pear, grapefruit, lemon, spicy notes (chilli, ginger, liquorice), grainy notes, vanilla syrup, light herbalness, new oak shavings, coconut, almond, apricot, black pepper, menthol, rich honey, spice, apple tart, malted barley, citrus oil, sweet spices of cinnamon and vanilla.
Finish
Aromatic, fruity and satisfying, depth of sweetness backed by strength of spiced oak, malty notes, peach, flowery notes, hint of salt, lingering cherry and cinnamon, long and warming with spice, oak, sweet tropical fruit, harmony of sweetness, honey, pineapple, vanilla, coconut.
