Description

Built in 1972 - at an optimistic time in the industry - to produce single malt whisky for blends such as J&B, Auchroisk was the first single malt to be bottled under 'The Singleton' banner. This 30 Year Old expression was distilled in 1982 and bottled in 2012 as part of Diageo's Special Releases. It was matured in a vatting of refill European and American oak casks and bottled at natural cask strength.

Nose
Light and precise, with fresh, crisp, juicy fruit (orange peel, banana, pear skin), fragrant almond oil and rich malt. Later, leather, beeswax and a suggestion of smoke. Stewed fruits (apricots, yellow plums and mango), figs and dates, vanilla and orange peel.
Palate
Initially cool, smooth and sweet, with fresh acidity and a mouth-filling texture, then warming, with smoky charred fruit. Spicier (pepper, cloves, nutmeg) and drier with a hint of coffee powder. Intense oaky side, leather and eucalyptus. Herbal tea and something burnt.
Finish
Sustained and warming, with liquorice toffee and peppermint cordial, then bitter chocolate. Waxy too, with notes of pistachio and pecan nut. Long, spicy and dry with some tannins and umami notes.
