Description

Balblair is owned by InverHouse Distillers and boasts one of the oldest histories of any distillery in Scotland. The distillery owes a huge debt to lawyer and energetic businessman Robert "Bertie" Cumming who purchased the distillery in 1948 after years of silence and went on to expand and modernise the distillery. Part of this modernisation includes a contemporary visitor centre running excellent ... The second release of 2000 vintage whisky from one of Scotland's oldest working distilleries. Matured in ex-bourbon casks for 13 years and finished in Spanish oak butts for a further five years, this is a spicy, creamy and honeyed single malt that still retains Balblair's citrus and orchard fruit characteristics.

Nose
Full bodied with aromas of seasoned oak, baked red apples and fruitcake, followed by warming vanilla and ripe tropical stone fruits.
Palate
Slightly oily in texture. Ground spices and old hardwood strike first chords, building up to brighter flavours of tinned pineapples, bitter orange peel and honey.
Finish
Builds up slowly with lasting sweetness, creaminess and notes of bitter chocolate.
