Description

Balblair, owned by InverHouse Distillers, boasts one of the oldest distillery histories in Scotland. This 3rd Release of the 1991 vintage is a 27-year-old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, bottled in 2018. It was matured for 24 years in ex-bourbon casks before being transferred to first-fill Spanish Oloroso sherry butts for a further three years. This combination imparts rich citrus and orchard fruit notes alongside chocolate, dried fruit, and honey. The whisky is non-chill filtered and bottled at 46% ABV. Rich chocolate covered fruits – peaches, red apples, stewed plums and jammy red berries. Expansive and complex with rich citrus fruits (lemon, orange), vanilla, toffee, chocolate, honey, beeswax, subtle cinnamon, winter spices, apricot, liquorice, leather, dusty tobacco, coffee, mocha, and a hint of furniture polish.
Palate
A syrupy, full-bodied, and oily arrival with citrus fruits (grapefruit, lemon), peach compote, stewed apples, plum liqueur, raspberry coulis, butterscotch, milk chocolate, digestive biscuits, honey, ginger, cinnamon, vanilla, allspice, pineapple, sour cherry candy, herbaceous, savory, minerals, black pepper, and cloves.
Finish
Fairly long and chocolate-driven, with bitter spicing, lingering spiciness and sweetness. Notes of orange oil, dark chocolate, sultana, creamy malt, chalk, oak, barley sugar, apples, herbs, black breakfast tea, red berries, honey, minerals, tea tannins, and peach.
