Description
Highly prized for blending, Balmenach uses a worm tub to achieve a 'meaty' aspect seldom seen in Speyside whiskies. The fingerprint malt in InverHouse's Hanky Bannister blend, there are no official bottlings of Balmenach but it is bottled as a single malt by Aberko and called Deerstalker. In 2009, the distillery began production of Caorunn gin which has become one of the biggest super-premium gins. Balmenach is a little-known distillery now in the hands of Inver House Distillers, who bought it in 1997 from United Distillers (Diageo). The distillery was mothballed in 1993 and resumed Scotch whisky production in March 1998.
