Description
Built by the Grant family in Dufftown, and situated next door to sister distillery Glenfiddich, Balvenie is at the heart of Grant's range of blends. Despite their proximity and shared water source, the style of spirit produced by the pair are quite different, with Balvenie producing a sweeter, more honeyed and very lightly peated new make spirit. The Balvenie Tun 1858 was developed by Scotch whisky's most experienced Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE. To create Tun 1858, David selects casks of European oak and American oak from the distillery's precious aged whisky, which are then transferred to Tun 1858, where the whisky is allowed to marry for several months before being bottled at cask strength. This unique marrying process is a rare technique, combining different elements of each mature malt to create a whisky of exceptional character.
