Description

A historic malt distillery located in the Highland region of Scotland. Since 1989 it has been Japanese-owned as part of the Asahi Group. Although it only produces single malt today, the distillery dabbled in grain whisky production from 1955 to 1984, even producing rare examples of single blends.

Nose
A deep waxiness, along with sweet mango and orange peels, bananas, fresh figs and ripe gooseberries. Hints of almond, vanilla, honey, warm chalky notes, sunflower oil, candied ginger, and mint. Also a leafy note and some stale beer. Tropical fruits with kiwi and blood orange, thick cola, melon, red liquorice laces, acacia honey and a pinch of saffron.
Palate
Jammy yellow fruits like peaches, tangerines, apples and light guava. Mild pepper and star anise. Sweet orange candy and orange blossom honey. A bit of gravel, grapefruit peels, ginger, and a beer element. Mineral and waxy notes are present. Lovely spices including nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, ginger and saffron, complemented by orange marmalade, cola candy, BBQ pineapple and a hint of Turkish Delight.
Finish
Medium length, with very little fruits left, mostly moving towards ginger, mildly bitter leaves and earthy cinnamon notes. A first bitterness appears and it becomes slightly drying.
