Description

This exceptional whisky marks the first ever cask strength batch release from The Benriach, bottled in 2016 at 57.2% ABV. It is non-chill filtered and natural color. Benriach is a Speyside distillery that makes a range of different single malt styles, with its primary make being a non-peated spirit. It also conducts runs of peated and triple-distilled spirit and is one of only a handful of distilleries in Scotland to still operate its own in-house floor maltings.

Nose
Sweet toasted oak spices are interwoven with roasted orchard fruits and dusted with cracked barley. Black vanilla pods, desiccated coconut, and a gentle floral note add complexity to the ripe, fruit-laden nose. Red apples, mango, tinned peach in syrup, fresh apricots, honey, vanilla cream, and nutmeg are also present.
Palate
Creamy heather honey pours over a medley of apples, pears, and apricots. Subtle notes of candied peel and fresh ginger give a delicate warmth, leading to a classic combination of vanilla, toasted coconut, and sweet barley. Good mouthfeel, with strawberries and cream, baked apples, apricot, cake batter, cinnamon, anise, mild pepper, and walnuts.
Finish
Medium to long, with warming baking spices, anise, peppery woody notes, almonds, orange syrup, and vanilla.
