Nose
Dense. Wine gums. Dark chocolate-covered dried fruit pieces. Brewing cocoa on the stove (the milk has caught and is on the point of burning). Old, deeply polished leather. Aged, tannic red wine that doesn't want to open up yet.
Palate
Leather book covers, dusty shelves, glace ginger, spices (powdered ginger, old nutmeg) - it doesn't taste as fruity as it smells, but the fruit smell/heavy tannin feeling really is a bit like drinking a stately old Sagrantino (admittedly at 100 proof). It's quite rich though, someone is making cocoa with half-and-half and it tastes amazing.
Finish
Although at no point would I call this "sweet", there is something of the feeling of post-dessert repletion. Like I've just eaten a really bitter-chocolate mousse.
