Gordon & MacPhail have experienced such success with Benromach since they took over the practically derelict distillery in 1993. Benromach Origins is a series of special bottlings crafted to highlight how small changes in the art of whisky making can help shape the character of the final single malt. This Batch 5 was distilled in 2005 using the much revered "Golden Promise" barley and bottled in 2013.

Smoke is clear on the palate and lingers, while the nose stays subtle. Apple and dark fruit give it another direction. That contrast is appealing, though this is more than a barely smoky dram.
