Nose
smoked lemons, peat and a big dash of antiseptics. Really medicinal, with bandages and iodine. Sunflower oil. Plenty of seaweed and brine. Then also new rubber boots. The sherry is there in the background, bringing tobacco notes, red apple and walnuts. Maybe one raisin too. Textbook Bessie. Fried banana and espresso, evolves quickly into ashes, graphite, goat stable and Ganda ham, including the rind. Plasticine and garden herbs appear. Capers! Olive oil!
Palate
oily, and powerful. Again the medicinal character stands out. Hints of briny smoke, very tarry Lapsang tea, some green spice and menthol. Then leathery notes, sesame oil, Kalamata olives and a lot of salty notes. The sherry brings some sweetness to the table as well, but only towards the end. Powerful and herbal start on rosemary and camphor, capers, and black pepper before the sweetness of the sherry cask is invited to show itself. Think honey, caramel, baked apples and a mashed banana with graeffe sugar. A drop of brackish water and quite a few ashes puts you back with your feet on the ground... in Islay.
Finish
long, salty and very ashy. Hints of cough medicine and tar. The long, smoky and slightly sweet aftertaste is the icing on the proverbial cake.
