Description

Having been in specialist and craft Scotch Whisky production for generations, Douglas Laing originally exported blends, but now carries the family name down the line by focusing on bottling exceptional single malts and grains as part of their Old Particular, Provenance and XOP ranges. They also enjoy huge success with their "Remarkable Regional Malts" range. A series of creatively named vatted malts... This Big Peat release is The Smokehouse Edition, a special bottling for the Fèis Ìle 2023 festival. This global limited edition Islay Blended Malt Scotch Whisky was finished predominantly in rich and robust red wine casks, bottled at 48% ABV, non-chill filtered, and with natural color.

Nose
Hints of red fruit and fudge intertwine with notes of medicinal smoke, charcoal and dollops of vanilla custard. Also, a touch of almond paste, dark fruits, red apple and vanilla'd oak.
Palate
A decently oily mouthfeel with caramel, fudge and barley husks, a pinch of white pepper, wood smoke, cured meats, dried cherries, peat smoke and an oceanic saltiness.
Finish
Medium to long. Lingering notes of pepper, a touch of mushy banana, plenty of charred lemon, red currant jus, smoked meats and a peppered spiciness.
