Description

Big Peat The Swiss Edition is a limited edition small batch blended malt Scotch whisky from Islay, bottled in 2017 at 48% ABV. It is non-chill filtered and without added colouring. This expression is a marriage of Islay single malts, including spirits from Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Bowmore, and the elusive Port Ellen, aiming to represent the essence of Islay in a bottle. It is described as a feisty Islay character with a sweet side, delivering a remarkably smoky profile with notes of tar, soot, and ash.

Nose
Opens fresh, salty, and clean, developing to sweet malt dried over peat, with notes of smoke, citrus fruits, and sweet barley grain. Hints of chocolate, coffee, cedar, spices, walnuts, almond, and a touch of cinnamon with oily smoke.
Palate
Robust and full-bodied with an oily texture, featuring intense peat smoke, ashes, sweet tar, and marine notes. Flavors of dark chocolate, pepperiness, tobacco, cut grass, peanut, and spices are present.
Finish
Long and lingering, replicating the palate with salty, tangy liquorice, smoke, bonfire ashes, and a phenolic quality. It can be somewhat drying with black pepper, tarry, and slightly antiseptic notes, alongside dark chocolate and coffee flavours.
