Description

A historic Highland malt distillery that makes up part of the extensive Scotch whisky holdings of Diageo. One of the oldest in Scotland, it dates back to the late 18th century and its modern history is hallmarked by its association to the Arthur Bell & Sons blends. Originally called Ardlour after its water source, the distillery we now know as Blair Athol was constructed in 1798, in the picturesque Perthshire town of Pitlochry, making it one of the oldest legal distilleries in Scotland. While it has never been well known as a single malt, the distillery is very much the spiritual home of the Bell's blend, and the visitor centre there attracts a mammoth 350,000 visitors annually.

Nose
tropical fruits like pineapple, melon, peach on syrup and juicy pears. Add some honey and vanilla, as well as a touch of eucalyptus. Fresh and summery nose.
Palate
somewhat oily and honey-sweet. Good acidity. The tropical fruit is joined by loads of citrus. The spiciness becomes louder as the wood rears its head. Midpalate it becomes a bit dry on ginger.
Finish
between short and medium long – the fruit seems to go down a caramelized path. It dies a mildly bitter death.
