Description

The oldest operational distillery on the isle of Islay, built in 1779. Today it is part of the Suntory Group, having been acquired by the Japanese company in 1994. Under their ownership is has been nurtured into one of the most collectable names in Scotch whisky. This is a 1968 vintage Bowmore, bottled at 25 years old, and is highly regarded for its tropical fruit notes and fragrant peat smoke.

Nose
A blast of tropical fruits including pink grapefruit, papaya, guava, mango, and passion fruit, with notes of wax, caramel rice, light smoke, heather, sandalwood, balsam, and Virginia tobacco. It also presents complex notes of rhubarb, dried plums, sultanas, raspberries, and creamy vanilla custard, evolving with hints of eucalyptus, camphor, old books, and forest after rain.
Palate
Tropical fruits, orange juice, tangerine, and lemon squash, with resinous and slightly cardboardy notes. Very minty with spearmint and citronella. Sweet fruits, confectionery, and stone fruits dance on the palate, with soft toffee and hazelnuts.
Finish
A rather long finish with lemon zests and smoked tea. Soft toffee and hazelnuts with sweet smoke teasing the tongue.
