Description

An 18-year-old Bowmore, distilled in 2003 and bottled in 2022 by Decadent Drinks as part of its Whisky Sponge collaboration (Edition No. 74). It was matured in a refill sherry butt, then transferred into another refill sherry butt to complete its maturation. It is a single cask release, one of 639 bottles, and bottled at natural cask strength of 55.3% ABV. The design is a tongue-in-cheek depiction of Rembrandt's painting, 'The Storm On The Sea of Galilee'.

Nose
Fruity and sweet with light smoke, peaches, citrus, unripe oranges, rubber, machine oil, earthy peat, and a hint of mint. Also notes of menthol, sea spray, dry and ashy peat, iodine, lemons, spearmint, eucalyptus, subtle honeyed sweetness, dry leathery notes, chalky notes, minerals, and tiny herbal drops.
Palate
Thick and oily mouthfeel with caramel, burnt sugar, candy coated almonds, peanut brittle, nutty, macadamia nuts, and caramelized hazelnuts. Also salty and coastal, with liquorice, charcoal, and tropical fruits like papaya, lime, grapefruits, and tangerines.
Finish
Medium long with peat coming in more forcefully (earthy, smoky), leather, English walnuts, marjoram, and toasted wheat. Long, leathery dryness and minerals, with a vague pineapple sweetness.
