Description

A 32-year-old Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky from Bruichladdich, distilled in 1970 and bottled in September 2002. This unpeated and non-chill filtered expression was matured in first-fill American oak casks. It was one of the first releases by the new owners of Bruichladdich after the distillery reopened in 2001, selected and handcrafted by Master Distiller Jim McEwan. This limited edition bottling had an outturn of 4,200 bottles and comes with its original tin tube. It received a score of 95 points from Serge Valentin on WhiskyFun and was awarded "Malt Import Of The Year" in 2003 by Malt Advocate.

Nose
Rich and aromatic with notes of boiled sweets, toffee, and floral petals. Juicy apricots, pears, melons, gooseberries, and passion fruits mingle with honeysuckle, vanilla, and mint. Hints of grassy, oily, and faint coastal notes, alongside old ex-bourbon characteristics, ripe pineapple, peach, and green apple. Underlying scents of old books, wood, beeswax, toasted almonds, sesame seeds, and a slight minerality.
Palate
A smooth, oily, and full-bodied experience with malted barley, thick honey, and fruit. Ripe melon, apricot, fruit teas, and well-balanced oak are present, along with coconut and a return of grassy/minty edges. Rich tropical fruit, dried apricots, and honey are complemented by cooling eucalyptus, fresh herbs, dry oak, caramel, chocolate ganache, and sugary malt. Toasted sesame-seed bagel, tobacco, earth, and mineral notes like limestone and oyster shells, with yellow plums and mango.
Finish
Long, fruity, and well-balanced, with a smooth, rounded sweetness of yellow raisins and grassy notes. Cooling and rich, with mango lassi, thick honey, green apple skins, eucalyptus, wet grass, pine needles, coconut water, and fragrant sweet flowers. More old books notes linger.
