Description

Islay's remote north east coast might seem a strange place to find a substantial Victorian distillery, but it was chosen in 1881 by William Robertson in partnership with Greenlees Bros. as the perfect spot for his island vision. Constructing it meant not only building the distillery but houses as well, putting in a road, and adding on a pier so that casks and barley could come in, and whisky go out. This is an unusual distillery exclusive hand filled Bunnahabhain matured in an American Craft Ale cask.

Nose
Fairly light, vanilla, fresh apples, caramel, light salt. Green notes of grass and herbs, mixed with notes of petroleum, honey and wax.
Palate
Spicy clean sweet heat/tingle, vanilla, filtered apple juice, caramel, lemon zest, hint of salt, light fruity pomello rind bitter on backend. Downright fat-bodied. Very rich, with lots of sweet fruits; apples and pears in simple syrup. Ginger, caramel and white pepper.
Finish
Lingering light citrusy notes, light tingle, sweet apple/citrus sweet. Medium long finish. Cinnamon and vanilla. Hints of hops and cut grass. A bit closed up until well into the finish, then it relaxes and I am left with a very pleasant fruity sweet finish.
