Description

This Caol Ila 2003 Distillers Edition is a limited edition Islay single malt Scotch whisky, distilled in 2003 and bottled in 2015. It is part of Diageo's 'Distillers Edition' series, which sees whiskies double matured in carefully chosen wine casks. This expression was matured in American oak and finished in Moscatel wine casks, resulting in a deep, sweet, and smoky character with rich fruit and spicy notes. Its sweetness and maltiness are quickly overwhelmed by peat smoke and intense, clean, crisp flavours.

Wonderfully concentrated pure, clean Caol Ila – peaty and medicinal, with rich fruit, spicy and fragrant. Forward and immediately smoky-spicy, opening up to reveal Caol Ila's trademark fresh clean notes.
Palate
Sweetness and maltiness strike first, then are quickly overwhelmed by peat smoke and intense, clean, crisp flavours. Firm and oily-smooth in texture, with a full smoky attack, balanced by sweetness, body, and light-wood spice.
Finish
Long, sweet and smoky, with suggestions of liquorice root, peaty and sweet woody smoke, and flashes of honey and orange zest. Robust and delightfully palate warming and spicy.
