Description

A fruity, smoky limited-edition Caol Ila single malt from the Elements of Islay series, Cl14 is a marriage of four casks - one 2015 American oak hogshead, two 2012 ex-oloroso sherry butts and one 2013 ex-oloroso sherry butt. Aromas of coastal smoke, fruit chutney, smoked mackerel, savoury herbs and sweet caramel fill the nose, complemented by notes of dried fruit, raspberry coulis, cherries, orange peel, dark chocolate, bonfire embers, rich smoke and warm spices throughout the palate. Nose
Coastal smoke appears, layered with smoked mackerel and fruit chutney. Pleasant savoury notes intertwine with caramel. Sweet and mellow peat with notes of figs, dried and red fruit, leather, coal, citrus, ash, sweet malt, and a slight floral note. Water brings out more coastal and salty sea notes. [1, 2, 5, 11]
Palate
Sweeter and richer with layers of dried fruit, raspberry coulis and cherries. Orange rind combines with gentle smoke and spice. Smoky with sweet meat and BBQ notes. Red fruit notes from sherry butts. Water mellows smoke and brings forward red fruit and honey. [1, 2, 5, 11]
Finish
Balanced and lasting with dark chocolate, bonfire embers and pomegranate seeds. Long finish with a thick, smoky mouthfeel that fades to ashy and peaty notes. [1, 2, 5, 11]
