Founded by Leonard J. Russell Snr in 1936, Ian Macleod & Company Ltd have a distinguished history with a portfolio of quality brands and spirits. Chieftain's is an award-winning range of rare malts, an independent bottling range by Ian Macleod Distillers, known for its long heritage and commitment to showcasing distinctive single cask whiskies from across Scotland. This 22-year-old single malt, distilled on 5th March 1997 in the heart of Speyside, was matured in a first-fill Oloroso sherry cask and bottled in 2019 at natural cask strength of 55.7%. It is non-chill filtered and has natural color. Nose
Syrupy and piney, chestnuts, custard, notes of prune, rich dry sherry and chocolate. Lush aromas of dark fruits, prunes, raisins, dates and roasted nuts. Followed by notes of leather, tobacco, dark chocolate and a touch of balsamic glaze.
Palate
Soft and silky yet bold, light sweetness with berry wine gums, herbs and gentle spice. Full-bodied, powerful and velvety. Candied orange, espresso beans, clove, cinnamon and walnut create a rich and satisfying profile.
Finish
Explodes with richness, dry sherry notes, dried fruit and warming oak. Long, warming and deep with lingering sherry richness, dark wood, cigar box notes and a hint of black pepper.
