Description

Clonakilty Single Grain Cognac Cask Finish Batch #2 / Irishmalts.com Based in Cork, Klonakilty became Ireland's 23rd operational distillery when it commenced distilling on 5th March 2019. Run by the Scully family, the distillery boasts three copper pot stills and an Atlantic ocean-facing warehouse for maturation. This whiskey has been aged in a combination of ex-Bourbon and Cognac casks. One of 265 bottles, specially bottled for Irishmalts.com. This is a premium blend of 2008 malt and 2010 grain, originally aged in Bourbon before spending 22 months in a Cognac cask.

Nose: Really rich, refined nose. A hint of poached pear that is quickly brushed aside by milk chocolate, almonds and a touch of cedar.
Palate: Green apples and pear lead the palate but once again, that sweetness takes over revealing more chocolate, with some toffee and a slight black pepper spice.
Finish: Medium finish. Clove rock and butterscotch make an unusual but pleasant duo.

That little cedar note is welcome, but pear, chocolate and toffee seem to take the lead. The wood influence feels more like a supporting detail than the main draw, while the clove and butterscotch finish adds an appealingly unusual touch.
