Description

The Compass Box 3 Year Old Deluxe is a blended malt Scotch whisky released in 2016 as a 'protest bottling' against the Scotch Whisky Association's regulations on age statements. While it carries a 3-year-old age statement, only 0.4% of the blend is actually 3-year-old Clynelish matured in a first-fill bourbon barrel. The majority of the blend consists of significantly older whiskies: 90% 24-year-old Clynelish from refill hogsheads and 9.6% 20-year-old Talisker from first-fill sherry butts, along with a small amount of peated malt from Laphroaig. This non-chill filtered and naturally colored whisky was bottled at 49.2% ABV, with a limited outturn of 3,282 bottles.

Medium-thick texture, with massive candlewax, sweet lemon, baked apples, pineapple, pear, grilled banana, nectarines, stewed orchard fruits, mineral notes, dry grassiness, pepper, clove, vanilla, fresh oak shavings, and an ashy, subtly peaty character.
Finish
Medium-long, with diminishing smoke, paraffin wax, soft vanilla, black pepper, charred driftwood, basil, mint, sea buckthorn, honeydew, grapefruit rind, zesty lemon, and lingering spicy, waxy, and peaty notes.
