Description

This is the seventh edition of Compass Box Flaming Heart, a blended malt Scotch whisky. It combines malts from Laphroaig, Caol Ila, and Talisker distilleries for a smoky dimension, with a Highland Malt Blend aged in richly toasted virgin French oak casks for spicy richness and deep fruitiness. It was bottled in 2022 at 48.9% ABV, is natural color, and not chill-filtered. Only 9,606 bottles were released.

Nose
A high-energy nose with smouldering peat embers, cigar wrapper and candied ginger. Rich, smouldering embers, with toasted oak, gingerbread, and twists of waxy lemon. Burnt moss and damp twigs, dry dirt, mushroom, heavy exotic baking spices, orange zest, heather honey. Sweet campfire smoke, a little iodine/medicinal vibe, some red fruit, maybe strawberry/raspberry. Mild notes of pineapple.
Palate
Oily, smoky, rich and savoury. Meaty smoke, sizzling bacon, caramelised maple, with rich baking spices. Thick and creamy mouthfeel, sweet with smoky caramel, peat, berries, apples, raisins, cherries, and nutmeg. Intensely sweet on first sip, instantly coats the tongue, pipe tobacco, citrus, pineapple, raspberry, velvety mouthfeel with hardly any alcohol burn. Dark chocolate cake.
Finish
Long and syrupy with apricot jam and peat smoke. Medium-length finish. Tannic oak, spices, pepper, and more spices. Medium length finish, surprisingly fruit forward, pineapple keeps coming up, very lightly smoky, like cool mesquite smoke.
