Description

Connemara is unique among Irish whiskeys, in that it's peated. Drying barley over a peat fire imparts an amazing smoky flavour that's sure to call in mind a quality Hebridean Scotch whisky. Here, we find these qualities offset by honey and a dash of sharp orchard fruit. Connemara Distillers Edition is an Irish single malt whiskey from Cooley (Kilbeggan / County Louth) that is distinguished by its subtle peaty smokiness. It first matures in ex-bourbon casks and then finishes in a selection of Oloroso sherry casks, which adds depth and a sweet-fruity character with hints of sweet vanilla and honey.

Nose
Earthy smoke, honey malt, apple, hints of sherry and vanilla. Grassy smoke with subtle farmy hints, green apple candy, citrusy top notes, darker brambles and raisins.
Palate
Initial sweetness of honey and malt, orchard fruit (peach), black pepper, peat, vanilla, and sherry notes. Coal smoke with a herbal side, smoked oranges, crushed black peppercorns, baked apple sweetness, forest fruits candy, and a hint of vanilla.
Finish
Very long, smoky-oak, with sweet and spicy undertones, honey-fruity nuance. Medium long, with warming smoky notes, cereal notes, and some oily hints. Wood smoke, liquorice, cloves, and a hint of cough drops.
