Description

Nestled in the idyllic Cotswolds region of England, sits the eponymous distillery founded by Daniel Szor. They have been producing fine spirits since 2014, including Gin, Absinthe and cream liqueur. However, perhaps most significantly (for us at least) 2017 marked the release of their first whisky, finally having come of age after three years of maturation. Since 2022, a completely new distillery ...

Honey, butterscotch and vanilla give this a clearly sweet start, while oak spice and a drying, peppery finish keep it from feeling soft all the way through. That sweet-versus-spicy balance sounds appealing, though the bitter notes may make it less easygoing.

There’s a clear pull toward richness here: dark treacle toffee, caramel and creamy notes give the palate a rounded, sweet core. Citrus and oak spice add a brighter, drier edge, so it doesn’t read as sweetness alone. The finish’s vanilla, dark chocolate and peppery oak sound like a satisfying continuation, with enough contrast to keep this from feeling heavy. Overall, the description points to a richly flavoured malt with lively accents.

The dark treacle toffee and orange citrus give this a clear sweet-and-bright contrast, while oak spice carries into a drying finish. There’s plenty to follow here, though the character leans more toward toffee and fruit than the herbal notes I tend to notice.
