Description

A historic brand of blended Scotch whisky introduced by Berry Brothers & Co back in 1923. It was traded to the Edrington Group in exchange for the Glenrothes single malt brand in 2010 and its now part of the portfolio of La Martinquaise's Glen Turner Company. A historic London wine merchant that traces its origins back to 1698. The company has long-associations to the Scotch whisky industry. Cutty Sark was created on March 23, 1923, by Berry Bros. & Rudd, aiming for a lighter style of blended whisky to sell internationally, especially in the US during Prohibition. It became the best-selling Scotch in the US by 1961. The distinctive yellow label was reportedly due to a printing error. [cite: 1, 7, 8, 15, 17, 19, 20, Whisky Auctioneer]
