Description

Dalmore distillery was used as a deep-sea mine production centre by the Royal Navy between 1917 and 1920. After the navy departed, the distillery was left in tatters, and - after a long compensation battle involving the House of Lords - the distillery was brought back online in 1922. Now Dalmore, under the stewardship of Richard Paterson, presents itself as a luxury brand with a history of wealthy... This is a rare bottle of 12 year old single malt Scotch whisky from the Dalmore distillery, produced in the 1980s, representing the core expression before the shift to ultra-premium branding and the change in bottle aesthetics.

Nose
Soft yet fragrant, offering a delightful blend of apples and pears, with a tea-like aroma. Malty notes and vanilla sweetness are intertwined with hints of sherry, creating a complex and inviting olfactory experience. Primary aromas include sultana raisins, oranges, dark chocolate, vanilla, and walnuts.
Palate
Light and clean, featuring grassy notes complemented by aniseed and honey, orange marmalade, and even subtle hints of smoke. Balanced malt and sherry up front with a somewhat unpleasant tartness on top, mixed berries and stone fruit around the middle, fading into creamy malt and mild oak at the back.
Finish
Pleasant and of decent length. Opens with pleasantly rounded nougat, fades into sharper malt, sherry residue, citric tartness, creamy vanilla, and chocolate/coffee beans. Quite rapidly warming, with muted tannins and a long lingering dull wet cardboardy flavor.
