Description

Darkness 8 Year Old - Sherry Cask Finish is an 8-year-old single malt Scotch whisky from Atom Brands, an independent bottler. It is initially matured in ex-bourbon barrels before undergoing a finishing period of at least three months in custom-made first-fill Oloroso sherry octave casks. This process, utilizing smaller casks, significantly increases the surface area to volume ratio, leading to a more intense sherry influence and richer flavor. The whisky is bottled at 47.8% ABV, is non-chill filtered, and has no added coloring, emphasizing its authentic nature. It is a continuous release within the Darkness range, known for its intensely sherried whiskies.

Nose
Candied orange peels, chocolate peanuts, cooking spice warmth, and dried cherry, with notes of dates, fresh dried apricots, walnut slice, and moist fruit cake. Dark macerated fruits like blackberries and plums are present, alongside cinnamon, cloves, a hint of oak, vanilla pods, balsamic, bitter orange peel, and triple sec.
Palate
Full-bodied and complex, with amaretti biscuits, subtly toasty hints, powerful raisin and prune, and earthy oak. Flavors of dark chocolate, tangy orange zest, fruit cake, and a nutty, spiced-up oloroso character are evident, along with sweet malt notes, light nut aromas, honey, sherry-soaked fruit, cinnamon, deep oaky richness, pepper, and marmalade.
Finish
Long-lasting and warm, with a sweet note that pleasantly lingers. It is slightly oily with a hint of smoke, moving through a savoury fruit note to unsweetened dark chocolate, ending with spice, warmth, hazelnuts, wood, orange, and tobacco.
