Description

De Verloren Whisky is a Blended Scotch Whisky created by Dam Dranken, an independent bottler based on the Dutch island of Terschelling. This whisky is an ode to the island's history, inspired by a story from 1969 when barrels of whisky washed ashore during a storm. It is a blend of various Scottish single malts, matured in bourbon and sherry casks, and bottled at 43% ABV. The bottling series is named 'Gevonden sinds 1969' (Found since 1969), reflecting its unique origin story.

The green apple and citrus peel give this blend a clear, fresh edge, while salted caramel and light smoke add a warmer, rounder side. That contrast sounds appealing.

The notes suggest a Scottish blend with a pleasing balance: salted caramel and stone fruit are brightened by citrus peel, while light smoke and oak give the palate a drier counterpoint. The nose sounds softer, with ripe pear and green apple, and the finish turns toward pepper, liquorice root and a mild salty note. I like that sweet and savoury elements both have a place here, without the description making the whisky sound especially heavy.

The Bourbon & Sherry cask detail is a welcome point of interest. The notes pair ripe fruit and salted caramel with light smoke and a gently salty finish. That sounds rounded, with enough contrast to keep the sweetness from feeling one-note.
