Description

Deanston Stout Cask Finish is a Highland single malt Scotch whisky, a limited-edition release resulting from a collaboration between Deanston Distillery and New Holland Brewing Company. Distilled in 2012, it was initially matured in re-charred whisky casks before a six-month finishing period in ex-bourbon barrels that previously held Dragon's Milk stout. Bottled at 50.5% ABV, this unpeated and non-chill filtered whisky offers a unique profile marrying traditional Highland characteristics with rich stout influences.

Chocolate and roasted grain give the palate some weight, while candied orange and lemon zest keep it from feeling one-note. The finish sounds more challenging: drying nutty oak, bitter cacao and peppery spice pull things toward a drier, sharper close. That contrast makes this an interesting choice for someone who enjoys sweetness alongside a distinct roasted edge, though the bitter finish may not suit every preference.
