Description

This Uberach Single Cask Whisky from Distillerie Bertrand is bottled without reduction at 59.8% ABV. It was distilled on October 4, 2009, and bottled on May 2, 2017. Aged in a first-fill Rasteau (natural sweet wine from the Rhône Valley) cask, it is aromatic, strong, and showcases personality from its organic malted barley. Nose
Intense notes of root, orchid, and oriental pastry, with a resolutely vinous character. Aromas of caramel blend harmoniously with undergrowth, evolving to wood, gentian, chamomile, caramelized apple, and Tonga vanilla. Hints of dark chocolate, fleur de sel, and a fine salinity are present, along with cherries, pears, fruit confit, mulled wine, walnuts, hazelnuts, and a touch of toast, leather, cloves, cardamom, and white tobacco. [3, 6, 9]
Palate
A dry and lively attack with vinous notes and Jamaican pepper. The mid-palate is saline and powerful, with woody notes, honey, plums, and prunes. It is smooth and ample, offering flavors of toasted caramel, nuts, cooked peaches, licorice, cacao, cloves, vanilla, and peppercorn. [3, 6, 9]
Finish
Long and very pleasant, with roundness and complexity. Woody notes are more manifest, and the empty glass reveals aromas of crème brûlée. It is also described as pleasantly fruity. [6, 9]
