Description

Ballechin is the heavily peated expression from Edradour Distillery, named after a local distillery that shuttered in 1927. This Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky is 10 years old, non-chill filtered, and natural colour, bottled at 46% alc./vol.. It is matured predominantly in ex-Bourbon casks with a generous top dressing of ex-Oloroso Sherry casks. The barley is heavily peated to a minimum of 50 parts per million. The first 10-year-old expression was released in 2014.

Nose
Peaty, spicy, herbal, and sweet. Barnyard, ash, fresh hinoki, sandalwood, pencil shavings, resin. Some sweetness in the form of green banana, canned fruit, vanilla custard, faint nutty sherry, coffee, and chocolate. Autumn forest vibes.
Palate
Oily and viscous. Slightly salty now, with earth, canned fruits, mint, eucalyptus, bitter oak, honey, dark chocolate, leather. Grows spicier and peatier over time, with more herbal and woody notes coming through.
Finish
Medium to long. Drying wood spice and peat. Green herbs - parsley, coriander, mint. Lingering floral honeys.
