Description

Elements of Islay Oc2 is an independently bottled single malt Scotch whisky from the Islay region, part of the Elements of Islay series by Elixir Distillers (formerly Speciality Drinks). This particular release, Oc2, is the second batch of Octomore spirit from the Bruichladdich distillery. The Elements range is known for its small-batch bottlings, presented in bespoke 'pharmacy' style bottles with labels inspired by the periodic table, using distillery codes and batch numbers. This expression is noted for its peaty character and is bottled at cask strength without chill-filtration. [cite: Scotch Whisky Auctions, 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 11, 13, 14, 16, 18, 19, 22, 23]

Nose
Lemon cheesecake, aniseed balls and peppery spice, with a background of burning pine, coal and peat. Sweet fruit jelly and butter notes overtake the smoke as it develops.
Palate
Intense but surprisingly easy drinking despite its strength. Liquorice and coal dust are joined by lemon zest, black pepper, anise and clove. The smoke is relegated to the back of the palate, where it provides a rich and savoury base of tar and black rubber.
Finish
Aniseed and tar fade to soft and spicy wood smoke.
