Description

Founded in 1992 by Brian Cook, the Vintage Malt Whisky Company set out with the aim to produce a range of malt whiskies from the country's finest distilleries and to present them to independent importers worldwide. The company is perhaps best known for its Cooper's Choice range of single cask bottlings. This special bottling of Glen Esk was distilled in December 1984, the year before the distillery closed in 1985. Aged for 31 years in a single bourbon cask, this was bottled in 2016 for the 15th Limburg Whisky Fair in Germany.

Nose
Aroma is very pleasant, with notes of lemon cake, peach skin, mango, barley wash, raspberries, peonies, red Pixy Stix, and lawn. It also presents discrete orchard fruits like yellow apples, peaches, and greengages, with hints of honey, barley sugar, light vanilla, grasses, yellow flowers, and a waxy, oily side.
Palate
A splendid taste with a warm and silky smooth feel. It offers a strong barley presence, with tart citrus, toasty notes, gentle bitterness, marzipan, hints of toffee, metal, and minerals. Garden fruits, white peach, melon, waxy/paraffin notes, grassy/resinous notes, tobacco, and lightly peaty notes are also present, with sweet citrusy undertones.
Finish
Long and warming, with barley, flowers, tart notes, a metallic hint, and a medium-long, slightly bittersweet, fruity-grassy touch.
